I have 2 pair and I think I’m ahead. I figure to try and take the hand there and then (my stack is around $7)
I raise his bet to $3. He pushes all in !
If you intend to match his raise and don't want him to call/raise why wank in?

Geoff, he made an initial bet on the flop and I raised in the hope that he would fold. Just to clarify the betting order

I'd have played it the same as you, but I'd have bet hoping he'd go all in! the bad beat is one of those things.

Larger stacks will often fold if they have pocket pairs and are looking to hit a set after a pre-flop raise (If they are up against a shorter stack that won't pay them off). Also, being a "target" suggests a large stack may play a hand incorrectly, push, and allow me to double up.
Just testing a theory ~ and thanks again Mike, much appreciated
Well in that case, I guess I concede. He had best preflop hand, you had best post flop hand, he rivered you. better luck next time!

Here's one that came up at a live cash game a few weeks ago I'd like some input on:

.50/1 NL Hold Em, 8 people at table.

I limp with q10, 2 others in hand are SB and BB.
Flop is KQ10 rainbow, SB bets $5, BB calls, I raise to $15, SB reraises to $45, BB folds, I went all in for another $25 and he shows KQ suited. Didn't need it, but hit K on river for boat. Tough one to lay down, what do you all think?

tough hand.. he was sb so he could have had anything but the only hand that beats you that you can put him on is a straight. Because he didnt raise you couldnt put him on a set or KQ or AJ. With his strong better like that the only hand you could really put him on is J9 so I prolly lay it down but it depends on the oppenent

Yeah, I guess I could've gone either way. The opponent, by the way, has a Doctorate from Yale; he's an eye surgeon. Damn doctors...

but honestly that is the only hand you can put him on or a better 2 pair unless he is a donkey which would greatly change what I would have done.
