Hey billybob, i don't exactly want to have to defend GWB's energy policy...but the truth is it's the other guys that keep putting out the roadblocks. Check here for a breakdown of the recent vote.

as for the reason....

Quote:
The move underscores how $4-a-gallon gas has become a major issue in the 2008 presidential campaign, and it comes as a growing number of Republicans are lining up in opposition to the federal ban.
It's now politically feasible as gas prices look to be perhaps THE major issue in the upcoming elections.

Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.

NYT editorial

R.I.P. to the S.U.V.

Quote:
Still, Americans’ response to rising gasoline prices makes an excellent case for a gas tax. It proves that drivers will change their behavior in response to high fuel prices.
Looks like the New York Times editorial board is in favor of high gas prices, especially if the money goes to the government.

Oh, and as a sidenote...I paid $4.57 a gallon yesterday for regular. 35 gallon tank on my work van...the damage??? $151.50
Oh the joys of living in California...grrrr.....

Also...

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=5007819

"We thought we had it passed back in 1995. It went through both the House and the Senate, and of course President Clinton vetoed it."

"A new president removed that obstacle. President Bush supports drilling. But repeated efforts failed to give him an energy bill to sign that included drilling in the refuge. Senate filibusters, or the threat of them, stood in the way."

If the bill made any sense at all, it would have been passed in the SIX FUCKING YEARS while the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and the White House.

If oil was going for $140 a barrel then I'm guessing it would have.

Odd that oil prices have skyrocketed since the dems who oppose drilling got control of both houses.

Maybe we can just start another war with Belgium or something and have the President deem buying oil futures as an unpatriotic act. Screw Belgium.

I agree, not only should we screw them...let's nuke 'em too and tell OPEC they are next unless they lower oil prices to $10 a barrel.
