Riiiight. Because most children heed what their parents say. Or not. You were a child once. I bet you could name a few things you didn't listen to your parents about and learned things the hard way. I bet we ALL can. I bet over 75% of here had sex in our teens, regardless of what our parents taught us.

You are failing to see that just because parents teach certain things, doesn't mean the children will automatically listen. Does it mean they have failed as parents? Hell no!!! My parents still preach abstinence to my kids, when obviously I didn't follow through with it. Should they have given up believing in it when I fell pregnant? No. They are still very avid believers.

awww, jimbo has changed diapers.

who changes yours these days??

and i find it hilarious that you would even comment about someone assuming their perspective was right. you are the one who keeps flinging the constant put downs at anyone who disagrees with you. i simply made an observation.

Exactly, Nicci. Which is why enlightened parents will make sure that their teenagers (esp. daughters for obvious reasons) are using BIRTH CONTROL!
Oh... wait a minute... that's right... Sarah Palin doesn't even believe in birth control for MARRIED PEOPLE! God help us if she is ever in a position of federal power.

Well, I know my parents for one would NEVER put me on birth control, and I know many other parents who wouldn't put their teen on it either. It's like a free ticket for sex. If you are trying to teach your children abstinence, then why give them a reason to go out and have it? That's like telling a child they can't have candy, but give them a gift certificate to the nearest candy store. What's the point of that?

actually Rob i think this is about values and morals and not simply religion. i for one am not religious, but my values and morals are far more in line with those who are than those who are not.

I think Bill Clinton was a bad president and that Hillary is evil personified. I've said both in the past. Frequently. However, they never set themselves up on a pedestal just to have their daughter bring them right back down by proving their platitudes to be hollow and meaningless.

And what you are failing to see is that a politician who preaches abstinence and unsafe sex cannot politically afford to have one of her own children fuck up so badly, so to speak. What you are failing to see is that I am not passing judgment on the daughter -- I am passing judgment on the mother who has had a key element of her unrealistic, 14th century platform blow up in her face. I don't know whether Sarah Palin is a good, bad, or indifferent parent, nor do I know whether she actually believes in the "traditional" values she preaches. What I do know is that it looks very, very bad for a politician pushing for waiting until you're married to have her teenage daughter knocked up in the middle of an election year.
