I just wanna jump in real quick. I agree, insulting just for the hell of it is unnecessary, but I don't understand why anyone would be offended in here that he was referred to as a redneck. Hell, my ex boyfriend was a redneck and proud of it! Most importantly, as Featherlou pointed out, the term was used initially because he called himself a redneck. I don't understand the comparison to the "N" word at all.

it's all about the context and intention Jen. i could make a list of words that could be compliments or insults depending on who says them and when.

considering the source, i doubt redneck was used as a compliment.

I hope to God one day that we get a top English Professor join up and make mince meat of the language use/interrogation we have in this forum.

I wasn't going to comment on insults -v- labels but I have changed my mind. If Doug quits slinging around "murderer" based on his opinion alone (I'm not saying this vile comment/opinion is not shared but it has no legal connotation) then Tracey might respect others' opinions about the use of the "R" word (I am not saying I think she needs to but Doug, I believe, feels she should)
