The countries that may turn out the best in all of this may be Japan and especially Australia. For some reason, they seem to be the most immune to the disaster.

Japan will probably hold up with the mentality of "Recession? Pheh! We've been in a recession for seventeen years! Bring it, bitches." They are just better geared to survive a low-interest rate / tight capital environment. It's like when cockroaches thrive after a nuclear war... they are just better adapted to the current environment.

Australia just seems to be holding up very nicely for reasons that nobody can really pinpoint, but they are in fact holding up. Their strong trade realtionship with Japan probably helps some.
