The world surely recoiled in horror upon hearing how Austrian Fritzl incarcerated his daughter in a purpose built dungeon beneath his house and subjected her to years of abuse including fathering her seven children (one infant died shortly after birth, whose body he burned in an oven).

Three of the surviving children were allowed to live upstairs with him and wife, Rosemarie, 69, while their three siblings were condemned to a shadowy existence with their mother in the cellar. They never saw daylight until they were freed by police on April 26. It emerged that Fritzl had a previous criminal record for sexual offences.

The report goes onto say he lived a seemingly normal life upstairs... Normal? How the fuck did he explain three children to his wife? Did he admit they were his? Did they look like him or HIS daughter or even the wife (if the daughter physically took after her)?

Fritzl told the psychiatrist that his relationship to women was shaped by his experience with his abusive mother, who allegedly beat him and isolated him from other children until he started school.

Fucking diddums. Children are abused the whole fucking world over but don't go onto transferring that abuse onto their own children!!! Sure they may have problems which may make parenting difficult... but nothing justifies sexual abuse!!!!!

The report declared Fritzl clinically sane and fit for trial

On the basis of her report the prosecution has demanded from the court that Fritzl be tried and sentenced, then committed to an institution for the criminally insane

Having staged their Moses-like appearance on his doorstep shortly after their birth, he persuaded the breathtakingly gullible local social services department to allow him to adopt them.

The ploy was made easier by the fact that his rape conviction, and another, for burning down one of his own properties in an apparent insurance scam, were, unbelievably, expunged from the records under Austrian law.

These children seem remarkably well-adjusted the report states, but what about the others:

For Kerstin, racked by some untold genetically mutated ailment, death might come as a mercy. For Stefan, a young man now but barely able to speak, physically weak and cursed with a prehistoric gait, the future also appears bleak.

It was from an article in the Times, discussing a book on paedophilia that has just been published- I passed the article on to a friend who counsels abused and tortured children. I'll try and find title of book

On average, every paedophile will abuse 200 different victims in his lifetime. If you guestimate that 100 of these victims will go on to be abusers, that will give you some idea of the extent of the problem.

Perhaps Carol had better refrain from guess work

Fact more female victims of sexual abuse than male
Fact more male perpetrators of sexual abuse than females


From those two facts how the fuck can you state than one-in-two victims go onto abuse (I am talking of sexual abuse only). These facts can be gained from any research perhaps with a huge variant on percentages but the facts still do not change.

From what I have read a high percentage of abusers were abused but this doesn't inform us how many victims DO NOT go onto abuse!
