9-Page Questionnaire Asks Job Applicants To Document Blog Posts, Comments, Facebook Profiles And More

If you want a job in an Obama administration, be prepared to disclose every blog post or comment you've ever written.

A nine-page questionnaire requires applicants to list -- and if possible, provide copies of -- all "posts or comments on blogs or other Web sites" they have ever made. Also required are "aliases" or nicknames used on those sites.

Translated into English, this means that President-elect Obama wants to know far more about you than his predecessors did. That requirement would force applicants to disclose information about Facebook and MySpace pages, profiles posted on dating Web sites, and even what was posted on Web sites like CNET and YouTube that allow readers to append comments.

I guess they’ll also want to know what movies you’ve seen, what books you’ve read,what magazines you subscribe to, etc,etc etc,

this takes privacy concerns to a whole new level - instead of sneaking around and doing a background check if they deem necessary, this pretty much comes right out and says that if you are applying for a staff position you will have no privacy rights and if you don't like it, well then just fuck off.

in addition it raises other questions about a person's point of view being used as a qualification for employment as well as the hypocrisy of a man who can't even make his school records public or honestly disclose his past associations, or even produce a long form birth certificate to stop those rumors about his place of birth asking for such in depth disclosure from potential employees.

Ok Doug, I know you are going to be biased in your opinions because you didn't want to see Obama in office but is this the only source you read from.... is it a reliable source? I ask, because I have just looked at another source which doesn't make it sound as bad as the source you linked.

From what I have read, these questions only require answers to if they could cause embarassment to office if this information is leaked to the public. Such as this question:

""If you have ever sent an electronic communication, including but not limited to an email, text message or instant message, that could suggest a conflict of interest or be a possible source of embarrassment to you, your family or the President-Elect if it were made public, please describe."

This doesn't sound as though Obama wants their life history, just information that if leaked, could cause damage to his party.

All of this is very ordinary in hiring these days. I've read many articles warning people to watch what they post in blogs, Facebook and MySpace because employers are reading them and making job decisions based on them.

It is also very ordinary for people aligned with a president to have their prior writings vetted. Today, that means blogs and online social networking sites. It used to just mean college papers, articles, books, etc.

By the way, there's a very good chance that my son might be a part of Obama's FCC transition team. I'll let you know how he feels about the application.
