As silly as it perhaps seemed when the story broke, Obama was more right than wrong. As that cite notes, Republicans such as Chralie Crist and Arnold Schwartzenegger have made the same suggestion of properly inflated tires. Moreover, Obama was responding to an audience question and not detailing the secret of his energy plan, which doesn't even mention tires or tire gauges, if you have a look through it.
Just rolling out the other viewpoint for everyone's consideration.
