Smack Crack and Pop... DRUGS

I thought id start an argument/thread about drugs. Should they be illegal or legal. Do SWOT teams float your boat or should people be free to make their own choices?

hmm wonder where the idea for this thread comes from with regards to choices

Quite simply... I'm against drugs. They are bad!

Everyone is free to make their own choices. For those heavy drug users who want to risk their lives... that is their choice! If they want to risk going to prison... again, their choice.

Without meaning to sound disrespectful, what does annoy me is seeing how much praise drug users get for trying to get clean. I respect them for doing so, but what about those who never touch drugs, who keep their head down, obey the law, don't steal to feed their drug habits. Where is their praise. I sound resentful? For a reason.

I use to live in a resettlement centre, waiting for the council to house me and saw plenty of drug users being referred within weeks of being clean. I had to wait 18 months to be housed. The references were not based on time spent there but on who made achievements and because I was off sick due to a bad back. I worked in a nursing home and the doctor didn't think it best I return to that job if i was prone to back problems...therefore the centre saw me as a "non achiever", so i had to wait the 18 months until they deemed i was able to hold a tenancy and that annoyed the fuck out of me!

Only a progressive society can see the obvious and deal with it in a
a humane way. It is OBVIOUS that drug use will NEVER go away.

Legalize it and control it. Look at the problem with realistic eyes and
see if you can deal with it in 'lateral' ways rather then the same old useless
ways.

No shit, it's a bad thing!!!

No shit that the way we deal with complex problems is with meager methods.

The methods used now do NOT work. Duh!

Get complex with complex problems or stay simple and ineffective.
Change existing methodologies when they are obviously not working or
remain stagnant.

Be brave and CHANGE or remain an unjust and rinky dink society!

Well, since there a GFY option, I had to pick it.

But, in all honesty, they are bad and should should remain illegal. They ruin lives.

By my count - that's three posters saying that "it's a bad thing"
and one saying "Duh?"

Thank god for lucas, im not asking if drugs are good im asking if they should be legal.

If i want to do a line of coke (which i dont) I should be able to, its my body no one elses, why send people to prison for doing what man has done for thousands of years.

I expect Payne and Kazza have taken alcohol B4, and I bet they would prefer not to have their doors kicked in and get locked up for their own good.

Its bad to smoke, eat too much and drink so why not ban that?

Have to run to work soon but will raise a few pointers...

Think about the fact that some drugs we classify as illegal in our present society were legal in our history and others will perhaps be de-legalised. Think about the fact that some drugs are probably legal in some societies but illegal in others. What about drugs such as marijuana which is illegal in Holland and yet tolerated in tea houses.

What about meds you can get on prescription and over the counter.

What about drugs that are presently illegal in the UK such as marijuana and yet have positive effects on medical conditions such as MS.

Compare the effects of drugs and alcohol and could someone raise stats to show whether alcohol or drugs have destroyed the greater number of lives?

Waiting for a Cont Ed group of potential nature photographers to practice
their skills at 'close up' and 'landscape' techniques?

I would have thought that by people saying drugs are bad... that would have given a pretty good indication that they think they should remain illegal.

Yes, I have drunk alcohol but lets be realistic... how much research has been done on drugs and alcohol... and what is the bigger killer. Which one ruins the most lives? I hear more stories about drug users stealing or committing crimes to raise the money to feed their habits than those who want a drink.

Alcohol is legalized for a reason... it does not do the same amount of damage that drugs do.

I don't smoke and I wish it was banned as for food, we as part of the Western society do not appreciate food; we take it for granted. still need to eat it to survive so I don't think you can put that in the same class as cigarettes, drugs and alcohol.
