Obama in 2001: How to bring about “redistributive change”

2001 radio interview.

any doubt about Obama's vision for america??

thanks to Joe the Plumber, many know about Obama's long standing desire to spread the wealth around.

Quote:
one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change.
call it socialism, call it marxism...or simply call it anti-capitalism. if you are successful, Obama wants to take as much of you money as he can get and spread it around as he sees fit.

\ Now that's just going to far!!!!!

You calling my man a Marxist now?

Dude, pay your fookin' taxes, accept the fact that unions have a right
to exist, know that a welfare system is necessary in a Democracy, spread the
wealth around by getting rich and donating to charities and I promise, Santa will
not forget you this year.

Are you guys seriously that paranoid? Get over it. Stop failing to draw distinctions between communism and anything that isn't unrestrained anarcho-capitalism. You're smarter than that. The government is SUPPOSED to have a role in capitalism. If this whole current disaster taught us anything, it's that we can only place so much faith in the self-correcting power of the market and still maintain some sense of sanity.

The redistribution of wealth is a basic tenet of capitalism. Look up anything written by John Maynard Keynes and read it... he'll do a much better job of explaining it than I ever could. Some redistrubution of wealth is necessary to keep inflation down and saving and growth rates steady. We would otherwise see huge boom periods alternating with crippling depressions... not exactly the ideal situation for long-term economic growth and short-term quality of life.

Prices are semi-sticky, wages are really sticky, and hardcore supply-side economics hinges itself an some theoretically optimal level of market efficiency that has never been shown to exist. Beautiful on paper, awful in practice.

Here you go. The Wikipedia page actually does a really good job of summarizing his ideas and their later expansions:

Keynesian economics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes, the absolute redistribution of all wealth is communism and that has been proven to suck, but the redistribution of some wealth is necessary to keep the capitalist system fluid and healthy.

Seems to me that the basic exercise of paying taxes is a
form of redistributing the wealth.
