Sarkozy: Obama an empty suit on foreign policy

According to Ha’aretz, the Israeli government has information that French president Nicolas Sarkozy has derided Barack Obama as an empty suit on foreign policy.

Quote:
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama’s positions on Iran, according to reports that have reached Israel’s government.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France. But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate’s stance on Iran as “utterly immature” and comprised of “formulations empty of all content.”

Obama visited Paris in July, and the Iranian issue was at the heart of his meeting with Sarkozy. At a joint press conference afterward, Obama urged Iran to accept the West’s proposal on its nuclear program, saying that Iran was creating a serious situation that endangered both Israel and the West. According to the reports reaching Israel, Sarkozy told Obama at that meeting that if the new American president elected in November changed his country’s policy toward Iran, that would be “very problematic.”

no surprise that anyone who is on the side of the U.S. is not a favorite in Europe

Since when has Sarkozy been on America's side?- he's a self-publicist who will make any statement that he thinks may grab the headlines and make him appear an important statesman. To accuse the the UK of not being on the side of the USA is way out of order! When France sends troops to the front line then you can talk about France being on America's side, until then play with your wikopedia or wherever you get your half-baked information about Sarkozy- I repeat the man is a 'putain'

who said anything about the U.K. not being on the side of the U.S.??

simmer down Billy, all i did was agree that Sarkozy was probably not held in high regard in Europe.

how many Europeans praised Tony Blair for being on the side of the U.S.?? I simply made a comment about what the majority see as an unpopular stance.

OK Doug point taken-and I have to agree with motherfunky, hardly anyone in UK, or Europe has any time for Sarkozy, he sues left, right and centre (breaking a tradition tha politicians are above that- his latest suit is against a company who made a joke voodoo doll in his image. 'Super Sarko' (as he likes to call himself) has also sued the former Chief of police for circulating tales his love life and finances, He's sued a magazine for publishing extracts from his diary and he sued Ryannair for featuring him in a jocular advert.
