I read a blog this morning in response to California voters approving a proposition freeing chickens from small cages but passed measures banning same-sex marriages while Arkansas voters barred unmarried couples from adopting or being foster parents.

I guess people care more about farm animals than they do their fellow man, that's really sad to me. Yes, I am glad that the chickens will have more room and better conditions as they wait to die, but I just think it's frightening that people show more compassion for tomorrow's dinner than for the chef.

Yup, Miss Piggy and Chicken Little may rest easy, but gay people in Florida and California can no longer get married and gay couples in Arkansas can't adopt children, G-d forbid a loving family (regardless of sexual orientation) give a needy child a home!

California's black and Latino voters, who turned out in droves for Barack Obama, provided key support for a state ban on same-sex marriage.

Proposition 8 overturns a May California Supreme Court decision legalizing gay nuptials and rewrites the state constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Exit poll data showed seven in 10 black voters and more than half of Latino voters backed the ballot initiative, while whites and Asians were split.

Though blacks and Latinos combined make up less than one-third of California's electorate, their opposition to same-sex marriage appeared to tip the balance. Both groups decisively backed Obama regardless of their position on the initiative.

Obama has said he is not in favor of gay marriage but supports civil unions. The president-elect opposed Proposition 8.

keep in mind that opposing proposition 8 = supporting gay marriage
