Thank you Nicci. A lot of therapy over that one.

It also took me a LONG time and lotsa therapy to get over my sister's suicide. We were very close; she would consult me on everything... and yet I had no idea. She ran a freakin' marathon two weeks before she died! She left a seperate note for each member of the family, so it was clearly well thought out. It took me years to forgive her... but it still makes me very sad.

I agree. I have a "living will" that states that I should not be kept alive by machines, etc. if, God forbid, something were to happen to me.

Exactly.

"haunt them forever" is the correct way to put it, Mark. I know... I totally missed the signs with my sister.

I too have had a few friends commit suicide. I told one friend not to do anything stupid after he got into a fight with his g/f. He looked at me and said,"you haven't seen anything yet"! He then went home and sucked on a shotgun. I felt like I let him down, and that I could have done more to stop him.

Maybe I should have used the word euthenasia instead of suicide.

Would you consider dr. assisted suicide to be a form of euthenasia?

I have a confession to make. This is the situation I find myself in right now. On top of everything else, the physical pain continues to get worse and I keep getting shuffled from one dr. to the next because none of them can figure out exactly what's wrong. Nor can they do anything to stop the inevitable or ease the pain.

I have not kept my intentions a secret. In fact I've informed, and discussed them with my family and friends. All have agreed that it's not the quantity of life, but the quality, and that to let someone suffer just because they would be "missed" is just selfish.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm going to just give up and do it tomorrow. On the contrary, I intend to fight to the end, and don't plan on going anywhere soon.

Is euthanasia legal in the USA? It certainly isn't here.

Montana Judge Endorses Right to Assisted Suicide

Quote:
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana judge has ruled that doctor-assisted suicide is legal in the state, but the decision is likely to be appealed.

The judge, Dorothy McCarter, issued the ruling late Friday in the case of a Billings man with terminal cancer who had sued the state.

In her ruling, Judge McCarter wrote that “the Montana constitutional rights of individual privacy and human dignity” give a mentally competent person who is terminally ill the right to “die with dignity.”

The ruling said that those patients had the right to obtain self-administered medications to hasten death if they found their suffering to be unbearable, and that physicians could prescribe such medication without fear of prosecution.
