Honestly, I don't think that Michigan's economy can be blamed on any political party. For some reason, the service sector economy in the state was never really given a chance to develop (no matter who has been in charge in the last 30 years), and that is looking like a very expensive oversight right now.

Every candidate I have seen in Michigan trumpets the desire to 'Bring jobs back!'. Michigan doesn't need to bring its old jobs back, it needs to develop new opportunities altogether. Sometimes unemployment numbers don't tell the whole story; you also have to look at the TYPE of jobs people are taking.

Funny thing about those that blame liberals for all the states and worlds problems. Have you ever lived in a regressive state like Texas, Utah or even one of the Dakotas.

who fucked those states up ....... Yes the answer is you and every single person who doesn't vote but bitches about the end results. Or are you the type that lives in a "liberal" area and have your head so far up your ass that you don't see or understand that liberals like paying taxes.

As you may have known I lived in Utah, for 12 years .... I put up with the Mormon bull shit because I loved the country and the Colorado River. However I left for greener pastures, when my interest in rafting and the canyonlands wained.

My point is, when in Rome (or Utah or Berkley) do as the Romans and render unto Cesar that that is Cesar's. Then when you are sick of Rome move to Alabama or as. in my case Oregon.

Now my point of the origional post is this..... after six years of a regressive congress and another six years with a regressive congress and a idiot regressive president leading them. Then with with a straight face, these republican clowns running for office are going to convince people in Michigan that they will turn Michigan's disastrous! economy arround! And with what anyone take the time to ask?

Ooh ... anyone that tells me they are an Independent is just telling me they don't have the ball to be affiliated with their party that they would rather sit and watch and then say see I'm not one of them I'm Independent ....... however I voted republican cause the progressives don't think like me.

Really just what we need is more service jobs in America....Piss on those high tech jobs and what self respecting American would be caught dead building a really good TV or dishwasher.

What we really need more of is prison guards and satlite dish installers.

nicki.... the blame does not lie with just one political party. not in michigan, not in california, not in texas or utah. not even in the U.S. as a whole. it's the political system that encourages and supports selfishness and corruption. there are plenty of self serving politicians and special interests on both sides of the aisle.

you come in here and essentially scream at conservatives and then get upset when i point out that liberals are just as adept at fucking things up. suggest that my head is up my ass and make a blanket statement that liberals LIKE paying taxes. (how many send in a little extra since the Bush tax cuts?? not many is my guess)

so long as two parties have a stranglehold on the political process they can hand pick candidates to fit their agenda. depending on location, having a "D" or "R" next to your name is more important than what a candidate actually believes in.

you can use rhetoric like "progressive" and "regressive" all you want...it's like saying pro-choice instead of pro abortion, or pro-life instead of anti abortion.

BTW did you notice that i said in my original post here that it might be an effective "ploy" and that it was not likely to be carried out?? was that blaming anyone or simply saying it might be an effective strategy because the other guys were most recently in charge??

sorry nicki, but attitudes like yours are divisive and that is one of the problems facing our country today. and FYI i vote for candidates based on what they stand for. gasp...i've even voted for green party candidates!!! that's what independent means to me, freedom to vote as i choose...not follow some corrupt party leader.

John McCain and I actually agree on a lot of things. If you ask me, he's the smartest cookie in the bunch this election year.

Amen. This issue has zero to do with who's in charge and everything to do with the fact that both sides rely too heavily on political savvy instead of economic sense.

First of all, high tech jobs are service sector and yes, we do need more prison guards and satellite dish installers instead of assembly workers. Prison guards and satellite dish installers make more money and cannot be replaced by cheaper foreign labor. But saying that does not exactly please the huge AFL-CIO and UAW voting blocks, so politicians are typically scared to say such things.

Tell that to my satellite dish installer. Couldn't speak barely a word of English and had to be called out again cause he botched the job the first time.
