You can't compare them at all, Mainland China and Canada or the USA. First, it's still a hybrid communist nation so there isn't supposed to be distribution of wealth. Second, they have approx 1 billion people that still live in rural areas that haven't been touched by today's economic standards. These people grow their own food, make their own clothes, build their own houses, etc. Getting by on a few hundred dollars a years is quite acceptable. The West needs to stop being so arrogant that we compare our standards to other nations ad cultures.
You can only really compare us to Hong Kong but that's a different creature altogether from the Mainland.
