i'm sure many will say the same about George Bush...but as the article points out it is best to make final judgment many years after a president leaves office.

the fact the the media swoon's around Carter now as if he had not laid the groundwork for many ongoing problems really brings their credibility into question.

The article has a strong odor of Republican bias and almost seems to suggest that any Democratic president was a bad president. But maybe I'm reading too much into the subtext...

That said, I've always felt that yet another Democrat falls into the broad category of worst presidents ever -- John F. Kennedy. I realize that it is sacrosanct to say such a thing in US America, but look at his track record: A botched attempt to overthrown the Cuban government in the Bay of Pigs debacle; a politically disastrous bungle of the aftermath of the Cuban Missile crisis which pulled the US military presence out of the Middle East, paving the way for Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and, eventually, the rise of the Taliban. A lot of talk about race issues, but absolutely no action and plenty of rising tensions. And, of course, there were the little things, like standing up at a podium and declaring that he was a jelly doughnut while visiting Germany. The only things Kennedy did well while in office were look good and bang hot chicks. Frankly, I would be rather surprised to discover that the CIA didn't mastermind his assassination -- your nation could scarcely survive a second term with that clutz in office!

Just IMO as an informed outsider.

Isn't this a LITTLE HARSH on Jimmy Carter? The guy wasn't exactly awesome, but Buchanan split the freakin' union! I think that instigating a civil war is a bit crappier than anything Jimbo pulled off.
