Services have been held across Australia to mark Anzac Day.

It is held on 25 April every year and celebrates the legend that emerged from the bloody failure of Gallipoli, where 8,000 Australian soldiers died alongside British, French and New Zealander colleagues, in one of the darkest episodes of World War I.
We in Britain never forget Australia's contribtion to the wars. Australia always represented at our Rememberance Day.

I watched on TV yesterday, 3 survivors from WW1, 104,108 and the eldest 112, and he was determined to lay the wreath himself- so moving.

Another thing to bear in mind when Australia lost 8,000 men it was not a heavily populated country- it devestated it!

Rememberance day is always special for me too. My father served in the Merchant Navy in WW2. His ship was sunk by a German U-Boat when their convoy acted as a decoy when the Allies were sending troop ships to Nth Africa. My Mother (A Nurse in England at the time) was pregnant with my eldest brother when she got news that her Husband's ship had been lost to enemy action. He survived, and for extreme bravery during this action was awarded an O.B.E (Order of the British Empire).. Rest in Peace Captain George, You will always be a hero to me

And proudly for me also, my Youngest son Craig carries the Navy Tradition.. Now serving on the warship HMAS Sydney, currently somewhere in Indian Ocean

You've got to be proud of him Steve, in fact the whole country ought to be proud of those willing to fight for their country.
